The Alexander Library is the largest of the Rutgers University Libraries, and contains the main research collection for
cultural, social and linguistic anthropology. Besides monograph titles, journals and electronic subscriptions,
Alexander Library houses United States, New Jersey, foreign and international government documents, each of which has
important materials pertinent to the area. The interdisciplinary nature of the subject necessitates the inclusion of
materials from many other disciplines. The
Library of Science and Medicine (LSM) houses the primary print research
collections for behavioral science, biological science, earth and geological science. LSM also serves as a depository
library for government documents dealing with science. The
Chang Science Library includes resources related to
agriculture, environmental studies, human ecology, and natural resources.
The
Mabel Smith Douglass Library houses part of the gender
studies collection and the
Music Library houses sound recording resources and
monographs on ethnomusicology and performing arts. The
Media Center offers a unique list of moving image (videotape, DVD, laser disc) collections, including documentaries. The
East Asian Library includes extensive holdings in the vernacular languages in topics such as dynastic histories, history,
